The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is pleased to announce its 2nd annual scholarship contribution and partnership with Frederick Community College’s Hospitality, Culinary, and Tourism Institute (HCTI). This year, The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek will contribute $2000 to the Frederick Community College Foundation in recognition of HCTI’s partnership with the club’s major fundraiser, Frederick’s Oktoberfest. Students in the Institute’s program are key in the food production for the festival, producing its potato salad offering using 900 pounds of potatoes. Frederick’s Oktoberfest 2018 is slated for this weekend: Friday, September 28th and Saturday, September 29th.
“Frederick’s Oktoberfest and The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek are grateful for our partnership with HCTI. As an all-volunteer event, we rely on volunteers of all ages and expertise to support Frederick’s Oktoberfest to raise money for our community. Knowing we have skilled students preparing authentic German potato salad adds to our guest experience and helps our Rotarians making our other food offerings in our kitchen,” shared Ashley Waters, Frederick’s Oktoberfest for 2018.
2017 was the first year for this partnership. The German potato salad last year received raving reviews from attendees.
“This is a great learning opportunity for our students to be part of such a large-scale event. It gives them valuable, practical experience to prepare them for careers in the culinary and hospitality industry,” shared HCTI Manager, Elizabeth DeRose.
To recognize the partnership and contribution, members of FCC’s Foundation, students in the HCTI program, and representatives from The Rotary of Carroll Creek gathered today at the Rotary Club’s weekly Wednesday morning meeting to present the funds.
Rotary Club of Carroll Creek President, Pete Fitzpatrick, added, “The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is so pleased to be able to partner with HCTI. It serves the dual goal of meeting one of the six areas of focus for Rotary International – Education – and helps the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek with one of its major fundraising events which generates a large portion of the funds which our club is able to give back to our local community and internationally.”
